FREE REWRITES?

Free Rewrites?

A producer will often tell you that your script is pretty good, but needs you to rewrite it a bit before he'll take it on. For free. Should you?

If you've got someone else who will option or buy the script without a rewrite, then of course the answer is no. Except in rare circumstances, go with the bird in the hand.

On the other hand, if that producer is the only interested party, then ask yourself if his critique seems right. Will the producer's comments make the script better if you rewrite it? Then why not do the rewrite? You've got the script this far, why not get it to the point where someone can do something with it?

But if the producer's comments take the script in a direction that will only benefit that producer ("I really need this skiing movie rewritten for Puerto Rico"), then you should not do the rewrite unless you're paid for it.

There's an ancient joke in show business:

Q.How do you tell when a producer is lying?

Enjoy your voyage on my blog!

WHY ARTISTS SHOULD NOT WORK FOR FREE!!!

For those who are responding to craiglist ads, you may have noticed that most posters ask artists to work for free!

WORKING FOR FREE IS SLAVERY, whether you are a student, a first timer, someone seeking to build up a resume!

Great post...

The Post
------------------------
Every day, there are more and more Craigs List posts seeking “artists” for everything from auto graphics to comic books to corporate logo designs. More people are finding themselves in need of some form of illustrative service.

But what they’re NOT doing, unfortunately, is realizing how rare someone with these particular talents can be.

To those who are “seeking artists”, let me ask you; How many people do you know, personally, with the talent and skill to perform the services you need? A dozen? Five? One? …none?

More than likely, you don’t know any. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be posting on craigslist to find them.

And this is not really a surprise.

In this country, there are almost twice as many neurosurgeons as there are profe…

Very moving moment at 23H45...Silence when we realize that it was the precise time when this iron lady stroke the iceberg and sealed its destiny...100 years ago.

My thoughts go out to those who perished during this legendary night, and those who have been touched by this tragedy.

My Titanic week

Image
Just coming back from seeing my favorite movie "TITANIC" on the big screen and in 3D. So fabulous! It was the first time I was seeing it this way and watching it on a giant screen immerse you in this memorable story...The most beautiful film ever made.
The theater was crowded, and people applauded at the end of the film. I cried as usual... I keep these images in my head since 1998. Thank you Jim Cameron and his outstanding cast and crew, for such a beautiful moment.

I've just started out my TITANIC WEEK today, commemorating the tragedy of the ship sinking...
Will come back soon.

The strange requests I get confronted with every day.

A few days ago, I received a message from a writer who had hired me to adapt their story into a screenplay…It was 2 years ago, and the writer came back to me, telling me that they have fabulous new ideas and wanted to change some elements of the script and re-write some scenes…
All of that for free naturally!

Sorry I don’t do that! I’ve written a screenplay based on their work 2 years ago and they were completely satisfied. If now, 24 months after, they have new ideas and want to rewrite some scenes they must hire me again, and pay me to write a second version!
I don’t do free re-writes and will never do!

ONE WEEK IN REVIEW

Image
Hectic week, as usual…But good news on my projects. Things seem to be progressing, although I don’t want to celebrate with champagne until everything becomes official.

As you know, I’ve written dozen original screenplays during the past few years, in between writing assignments and translations for filmmakers and worldwide producers.
My work ranges from thriller, science fiction, fantasy to dramas and comedies.

I’ve devoted a lot of time to pitching these screenplays recently and two specific projects have attracted producers and talents interest:

« MISS CLARK » and « THE ADVENTURER »

Actresses Tara Cardinal and Maria Olsen loved Miss Clark screenplay so much that they attached themselves to the project. At the moment, I’m in talks with a director who has a long-term partnership with George Lucas under his belt and a studio specializing in fantasy films is interested in the project as well.

Regarding « The adventurer », I’ve already mentioned being in talks with the reps of an A. Lis…
