In Nairobi, renowned geographer Bradley Riche is violently murdered in the house he shared with his wife Helen for more than 20 years.
Their only daughter Della, a zoologist in New York City, does not believe the local police thesis that it was a botched burglary.
Nicholas Farkas, an ardent animal rights activist, photographer for the National Geographic and friend of Bradley seems to hold the key to the enigma: Della soon discovers that the two men were working together to dismantle several ivory trafficking networks and that her father was about to publish an article implicating a new hub of this trade.
Soon, the couple put their lives in jeopardy to protect the elephants from the massacre they face every day, continue Bradley's work and dismantle the networks at the head of the carnage. Della and Nicholas are helped, among others, by a group of female rangers ...The Akashinga...Nicknamed the brave ones.

Nairobi, Bradley Riche géographe renommé est violemment assassiné dans la maison qu'il partageait avec sa femme Helen depuis plus de 20 ans.

Leur fille unique Della Riche, zoologue à New York, ne croit pas à la thèse de la police locale qui conclue à un cambriolage raté.

Nicholas Farkas, un ardent défenseur des animaux, photographe pour le national géographique et ami de Bradley semble détenir la clé de l'énigme : Della découvre bientôt que les deux hommes travaillaient ensemble au démantèlement de plusieurs réseaux de trafic d'ivoire et que son père était sur le point de publier un article mettant en cause une nouvelle plaque tournante de ce commerce.

Bientôt, le couple met sa vie en danger pour protéger les éléphants du massacre auquel ils font face chaque jour, continuer l’œuvre de Bradley et démanteler les réseaux à la tête du carnage. Ils seront aidés entre autres par un groupe de rangers féminins…Les Akashinga, surnommées "les courageuses".
