Series recommendation: Bates Motel

I will write more later when i finish  watching  season 4 and 5.

SO...I  finished watching it yesderday on prime. I must admit I had become completely addicted to it, which had not happened to me since I was watching "Buffy the vampire slayer" when I was a teenager...You know this kind of TV show where you become attached to the characters and want to know what's gonna happen to them.

 I absolutely LOVED Vera Farmiga's portrayal of Norma Bates. She may have seemed unsettling in the first episodes, fleeing her home after the discovery of her husband's body by their son Norman...Starting a new life by buying a hotel in a remote town and appearing ultra-protective with Norman.
But she turns out to be a brave mother through the seasons, a woman with a very painful past, fighting her demons and the memories that haunt her, seeking redemption and happiness, hoping for the best for her son by trying to protect him, not so much from others, but from himself. So when we see her being so protective of Norman, especially of his relationship with women, she actually tries to avoid the worst and what could happen if he is in the presence of someone who would not trigger the best in him...

As Norma lives with a secret: Her son blacks out, during these black outs, Norman does things he doesn't remember. 

The whole series revolves around this inner struggle inside her, she knows what her son is doing, but she can't admit it to herself, which will lead her to her loss. Out of love, she believes that she can save him herself and protect him from the world that will sooner or later see his true face.

I really liked the role of Alex Romero (the sheriff ) played by Nestor Carbonell (excellent too) as well.
His relationship with Norma, their love story that grows over the course of the series was one of the most beautiful romances I've seen in a series in recent years.

I find that nowadays shows are like fast food, you simply consume it, but you don't care much what you look at, the characters, which are not developed at all, and their relationship, as with "Bates Motel", I became attached to this couple, (Norma and Alex) being happy to see Norma finally being happy after her painful life, smiling, singing, thanks to this man, with whom she says it herself, she feels "safe", I was happy to see them together, and although I knew what awaited Norma, the scene where Alex tries to save her brought tears to my eyes.

Last but not least...Freddie Highmore, whom I knew as a child actor in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory among others, blew my mind in the role of Norman Bates, made iconic by  the unforgettable Anthony Perkins.
We literally see him fall into madness (and what a madness!) as the seasons go by, we feel sorry for him at first, then hate him in season 4 when he commits the irreparable with Norma, and feel sad for him again in the last season, in which he literally fights against his demons, and faces the truth, which he doesn't want to live with...

Special mention to Rihanna in the legendary role of Marion Crane, which takes an unexpected turn in the series. 

10/10 for that show!

 

 

 J'écrirai plus tard, lorsque j'aurai fini de regarder les saisons 4 et 5.

Donc... j'ai fini de regarder la série hier soir et je dois avouer que j'étais devenue complètement accro, ce qui ne m'était pas arrivé depuis "Buffy la tueuse de vampires" quand j'étais adolescente... Vous savez, ce genre de série télévisée où l'on s'attache aux personnages et où l'on veut savoir ce qui va leur arriver.

 J'ai absolument adoré l'interprétation de Norma Bates par Vera Farmiga.

Elle pouvait paraitre inquiétante dans les premiers épisodes, fuyant son domicile après la découverte du corps de son mari par leur fils Norman...Recommençant une nouvelle vie en achetant un hôtel dans une ville isolée et paraissant ultra protectrice avec Norman.
Elle se révèle une mère courage au fil des saisons, une femme ayant un passé très douloureux, se battant contre ses démons et des souvenirs qui la hantent, cherchant la rédemption et le bonheur, espérant le mieux pour son fils en tentant de le protéger, non pas tellement des autres, mais de lui-même. Ainsi lorsque nous la voyons si protectrice envers Norman notamment concernant sa relation avec les femmes, elle tente d'éviter le pire et ce qui pourrait arriver si il se trouve en présence de personne qui ne déclencherait pas chez lui...Le meilleur.
Car Norma vit avec un secret: Son fils a des absences durant lesquels il commet des actes dont il ne souvient pas. 

Toute la série tourne autour de ce combat intérieur en elle, elle sait ce que son fils fait, mais elle ne peut pas se l'avouer, ce qui la conduira à sa perte...Par amour, elle croit qu'elle peut le sauver elle-même et le protéger du monde qui va tôt ou tard voir son vrai visage...

J'ai beaucoup aimé le rôle d'Alex Romero également, interprété par Nestor Carbonell. Excellent lui aussi.
Sa relation avec Norma, leur histoire d'amour qui grandit au fil de la série était une des plus belles que j'ai pu voir dans une série ces dernières années, je trouve que les séries actuelles sont comme du fast-food, on se fout de ce que l'on regarde, des personnages, qui ne sont pas fouillés, et de leur relation, là, je me suis attachée à ce couple, étant heureuse de voir Norma être enfin heureuse après avoir tant subit de la vie, sourire, chanter, grâce à cet homme, avec qui elle le dit elle-même, elle se sent en sécurité, j'étais heureuse de les voir ensemble, et bien que je savais ce qui attendait Norma, la scène où Alex tente de la sauver m'a fait monter les larmes aux yeux.

Enfin, Freddie Highmore, que je connaissais entant qu'enfant acteur dans Charlie et la chocolaterie entre autres, m'a époustouflée dans le role de Norman Bates, rendu iconique par Anthony Perkins, inoubliable.
Nous le voyons littéralement sombrer dans la folie (et quelle folie!) au fil des saisons, je me suis sentie tout d'abord désolée pour lui, nous le détestons dans la saison 4 lorsqu'il commet l'irréparable avec Norma, et nous nous sentons à nouveau triste pour lui dans la dernière saison, dans laquelle il se bat littéralement contre ses démons, et fait face à la vérité, avec laquelle il ne veut pas vivre...

Mention spéciale à Rihanna dans le rôle légendaire de Marion Crane, qui prend une tournure inattendue dans la série. 

10/10 pour cette série.
