BLACK MASS: THE FEMINIST HORROR ROOTED IN REALITY

A horror stories and surprising twists enthusiast, female writer Jordan Tate has made the most of this lockdown, to embark on the writing of her second short stories anthology:"BLACK MASS.”

Written in both French and English, the book is an exploration of the Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris and its legends, and includes several stories described as feminist horror, depicting a world populated by legendary creatures such as werewolves and vampires and themes that are deep-rooted in reality such as abused and harassed women as well as rape.
In these tales featuring female leads, these supernatural powers are used by the ladies to defeat their aggressor.

The book is also a beautiful love statement to Paris and New York, backdrop for most of the stories in "Black Mass", as well as Italy, where the first short story titled "The soap maker" based on a real female serial killer who used to concoct soaps and cookies with the flesh of her victims, take place.

Jordan Tate, who usually focuses more on film writing, admits that she particularly appreciates this form of artistic expression, and the immediacy of this contact with her audience, who design their own mental images out of her descriptions.

With a particularly intense dark side, "Black mass” ends with a message from the author recounting a violent past assault she was victim of, that inspired, she says, the graphic murder scenes she has depicted with her attacker in mind, she also advises women experiencing the same situations not to hesitate to speak up.

« Black mass » is available in paperback and kindle editions on amazon.fr amazon.com and amazon.co.uk
