ABUSED CHILDREN BECOME ABUSERS
Pleasant moments with a friend today. A woman who’s been knowing me since I was a very little girl, visited me this afternoon as I was enjoying free time at last!
We had a very interesting talk about abused children which is a subplot of my latest story and a personal combat. She is also very schocked by these people using spanking as a method of education and discipline, unfortunately, most of those who were abused as children will grow up to become an abuser. Most wife-abusers where beaten children….
As a recall:
30% of abused children become abusers.
14% of all men in prison in the USA were abused as children. 7; 36% of all women in prison were abused as children
Numerous-studies have documented that most violent criminals were physically or sexually abused as children
Adults abused during childhood are:
- more than twice as likely to have at least one lifetime psychiatric diagnosis
- almost three times as likely to have an affective disorder
- almost three times as likely to have an anxiety disorder
- almost 2 ½ times as likely to have phobias
- over ten times as likely to have a panic disorder
- almost four times as likely to have an antisocial personality disorder
(Stein et al, 1988)
The majority of adults diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (81%) or Dissociative Identity Disorder (90%) were sexually and/or physically abused as children.
I also told her of these people proudly claiming they were beaten by their parent’s belts and she was extremely shocked. Most of the time, when violence is the only thing you’ve been taught, it is the only thing you fully understand and the only thing you have to offer.
She asked me to visit her very soon, which I will do in the upcoming weeks.
